At first I didn't like them either, but they look better in the game. You really can't even see them unless you use the zoomed out jersey's. (Which I never do)

The zoomed out angle looks atrocious, agreed.

I always preferred a subtle darkening of all colors to the jersey shadows. I think my beef with them is that your eye picks up on the false nature of the shadow when every jersey on the team has it in the same place. Still, it done right you're correct it's not really even that noticeable.

I also have a tendency to gravitate towards jerseys that have more of a "hockey jersey" look to them. Maybe I'll put together a new-age Yankees third jersey for this season because fuck aura and mystique.
