That's the plan at the moment. If people feel really strongly about having a separate forum, now is the time to lay out the case for it.

Yes, both of those forums are likely going away. The NFL and college football forums will also be removed so that all non-baseball threads will fall under general sports.

There are no plans to ban posts about current events or politics. If people aren't interested in those threads, I think they will be able to identify most of them by the title. It doesn't seem like things have been overly heated in there in quite some time as it is, but it can always be changed if need be.

Maybe this is a good time to jump back in and start being a little more active.

As for post counts....I am cool with that. I like starting fresh. The only thing that bothers me is not having some of the more memorable treads/posts for review. We have all had some good times and there is a lot of history on these boards.

It would be interesting to put some of the better thread, highlight posts, etc. into a book. Something that the regulars at SC could purchase. I would definitely pick one up at a sizable cost.

I think that we were leaning toward having one baseball gaming forum and using the prefix system for the different games (similar to what Gen mentioned above in relation the minor league threads). In addition, there would be one sub-forum for the franchise threads. I know that Gen also wanted to keep the developmental game forums open.

I do appreciate a condensed version of SC - I think there is some fluff on the website that would save EVERYBODY time and energy if it were cut down, and this increase the perception of activity in the community (since it won't be spread out so thin, I guess).

I'm perfectly fine with the Gen Chat/CE thing too.

Yeah, I am not the kinda guy that drops a lot of F-bombs on line. Well, occasionally I do get a little ticked.... But I have no issue censoring them. Where I do like this is the occasional "My pc is a piece of sh**" type of comment.

Until I see the changes start to roll out, I am gonna have a hard time changing my adult language habits around here.

EDIT: Can I assume there may be some down time with the major changes?

There will be some down time. Not quite sure how long, but if it goes smoothly, then not more than 24 hours or so.

At this point, I'm not changing forum software, just going through with the upgrade. I paid into the upgrade during pre-orders and so I'm kind of locked into it now. Plus, it seems things are slowly getting better with each new release of the software.

I'm still on the fence with some of the gaming forums, but again, like Mike said, the general idea is to try and condense as much as possible. And I think if we all use the post prefixes (general categorization) and thread tags (specific categorization) properly, we'll be able to find what we're looking for relatively easily.

Overall though, this sounds like a really good idea. I'm pretty sure the vast number of forums does have a psychological effect on me, and whether I read or post.

I understand the need to condense the forums completely and agree with it, but it doesn't necessarily affect me in terms of where I view posts or post myself. Generally if there is activity in an area, I check it out.

I don't think the join dates are going anywhere. We talked about what to do with the older threads, and while I don't think that the vast majority of them will be available for viewing, it is possible that a few of the more important ones could be.

I've started making a few changes to the forum structures. I figure I may as well get started on that now.

I can also safely say that any posts made in the new Gaming forum won't be reset when the forum upgrade goes through, since both of these forums are starting over fresh now.
