I'm undecided whether I'm happy or sad that I have the #1 pick. Oh well, here's to rebuilding!

Just think of it as cleaning up somebody else's mess (which is technically what it is!).

    Re: 2008 First-Year Player Draft

The 2008 First-Year Player Draft may now begin. You can access the 2008 Draft Class on the league transactions page, the same place you view Free Agents. Please make your picks in this thread.

I would love to not have to impose a time limit on picks, so let's try to keep a decent pace. 5 picks per day would mean we get through two full rounds before the end of Free Agency, I don't think that's too unreasonable.

Milwaukee can make the first pick whenever they would like. Anybody who wishes to help keep this moving quickly is free to send me Draft Priority lists via PM at any time. If you don't have much time to check the forums each day, I heartily recommend submitting a draft list of a few names when it's getting close to your pick. Use your best judgment.

    Re: 2008 First-Year Player Draft

I've got a question regarding the potential ratings. When I view the draft pool and sort by ratings players have one rating, but if I look at a specific guy his ratings potential in his profile differ, sometimes greatly from the ones on the main draft pool page. Is that normal? Is there a certain set one should go by as a rule?

Edit: One other question. Do potential ratings fluctuate at all? Could a guy who has low potential ratings at age 17 end up having higher potential as he gets older and vice versa?

It's definitely not normal. Did you have the league closed when you unzipped the new files into the league folder?

Potential ratings CAN fluctuate, but its random. You might get some bad luck and your big prospect will see his potential drop, or you might get some average prospect that sees his potential go way up. It happens on occasion, but it's completely driven by luck.

It's possible, yes. I doubt that the setting is set very high, so they're probably likely to stay pretty close to what they are now. Of course, talent boosts/drops do happen, so you have to prepare for them.

''It seems like they can't do anything wrong here,'' Buehrle said of the Twins, after admitting that the Sox do flinch a bit coming to the dome. ''[Manager Ozzie Guillen] calls them 'piranhas,' but I call them 's---heads.' I would tell you what I really call them, but I know you couldn't print it. They get on base, bunt, steal, bloop singles -- it's [bleep]ing annoying.''

Ya, it was closed. It's not on everyone. Just some people. Well I was going to pull an example so you could check but now I don't see it. It's possible I just clicked on the wrong guy.

    Re: 2008 First-Year Player Draft

I'm noticing some variable ratings in the scouting reports. Catcher Jim Allison is listed as CON-7, POW-9, EYE-9 on his profile and ratings pages, but in the scouting report he comes up as 5-6-6. I wonder if this has anything to do with the editing that was being done on some of these guys.

The date on the scouting reports is 1-6-2008. If editing was done after the sim on game date 1-8-2008, then we might have an explanation.

    Re: 2008 First-Year Player Draft

Ah, I see it now. The "Scouting Report" was generated with the draft class. I made several edits to the draft class after it was generated. All of these edits should show up when you view the Free Agent Pool, however. To view the Free Agent Pool just click the RSL tab at the top of your game screen, and then click Draft Pool. Alternatively, you can access the Draft Pool through the League Transactions menu.

Yes but I won't be simming the draft until the in-game file is on March 1st. When we get to the draft in-game, everyone will have the opportunity to fill out a draft list in-game, but until we get there they won't do anything. So for now, if you're going to make a list, submit it to me via PM.
