Do you think it's too easy for fast players to bunt for base hit?

I've been having a problem with Christian Guzman getting too many base hits off bunts that are just supposed to be sacrifice bunts. I lay one down to move the runner over and the pitcher and catcher take forever to get it to first and he gets a base hit.

I don't really want to change the baserunning speed or how quick they get out of the box because that opens up a whole bunch of other problems then.

Have many of you had this problem, and what have you done about it?

go in the tuning menu and lower runner speed

Like I mentioned, if I start messing with running speed, then doubles will now be singles, and triples will be doubles, and I'll just make other problems. It doesn't seem like there is a way to avoid that issue other than just maybe lowering the running speed of that one player.

I just ran a test of this and I just kept starting a game over and over and having Christian Guzman lead off with a bunt, and he got a base hit 80% of the time. This could really be a realism killer if I can't find a way to fix it without screwing up all the things I mentioned above.

I was playing with the Red Sox when I tried my first bunt with Johnny Damon. I had runners on first and second with nobody out. The pitch was high, not even close to an ideal location to bunt, but I bunted anyway. It was a terrible bunt, barely adequate enough to move the runners along. I held my breath.

To my surprise, not only were my runners moved up, but Damon beat the throw by a considerable amount. If he can make it on such a terrible bunt, I can only imagine how it is when a bunt is actually placed well.

This is definitely an area that needs improvement. Especially when online play is integrated, because many online players overused bunts even in HH2003 when bunting was more difficult.

dont edit the baserunning speed. That only causes more problems.

look for this line in the tune

delay out of batters box: 0.390 Time before batter starts running (from ball hitting bat)
play with that number, raising it means a longer delay, so slower to 1st base.

hope this helps. Of course this could also end up making some closer plays outs instead of hits, but shouldn't be too bad if you edit it slightly.

Do you guys have any idea what is even a setting for delay out of batters box to try? I wouldn't know what setting to any start with. My fear is that I'll set it on a setting that doesn't let Guzman get many hits on bunts anymore, but that all the other players will take a million years to get to first. Not to mention what it will do to getting doubles for the slower guys.

I'm thinking of just lowering Guzmans speed from 8.0 to 7.5 and then just bunting toward the first base line on sacrifices to make it easier to get me out. It seems weird discussing how to keep myself from getting a hit.

guy, you gotta do a bit of experimenting yourself sometimes. Just give it a try, the game isn't going to explode.
I think the stock out of the box is .375

I have it at .390 and i dont notice any problems there. Try that number and experiment. Don't be afraid. The game won't hurt you

I did change the delay out of batters box value, and the change affected doubles. It's a problem when you see easy bunts for hits, but also see runners thrown out at second that shouldn't be. I want to change the value for bunts only. Where is that setting? Then I'll experiment.
