    KMarks,

Very important. Are the graphics/animations clearer/crisper/smoother to warrant a trade in of my PS2 game.
Are the rosters more current, for example, does Luther Hackman appear in the game?

    Thanks, Jim

Hey jim, as soon as my copy is in my xbox I'll start reporting on it. I should get a phone call today or tomorrow from the guys at gamestop. I found this link to be informative. http://xbox.ign.com/articles/387/387616p4.html It is basically a rehash of the ps2 review, with the addendum at the end for the xbox crowd. It basically says that they squashed a few more bugs and the graphics are a bit better. Also the xbox live will have new rosters...waaaay cool.

High Heat will suffer greatly for its lack of visual pop. At some point you have to say, "catch up with everyone else already!"
Read the review and I really have to agree with this statement. Hardcore gameplay guys say they don't care about the graphics, it's in the gameplay. However, I don't believe that will carry High Heat in the future. They DO have to step up to the plate in other areas. If they are short resources to do so?.....Then the game will not compete sales wise. Just my opinion.

Love High Heat, but there's a picky audience out there who spends the money.

Count me in the audience of good gameplay over graphics. Madden was the only one since I have been playing PC sports mind you, that had the eye candy and the gameplay to boot this year. It comes down to personal preferences, eye candy vs. gameplay, features vs. eyecandy, features vs. gameplay. Last year people were saying only if HH had the graphics of Triple Play, etc... There will never be the perfect sports game made because there are too many people to please. Madden came close this year, but EA made some people mad because they removed Online franchises. If ever the perfect game was made, what would companies to do improve next year and make you buy their product?

Now, with all that said, competition is good.

I think Madden was far from perfect. There was way too much passing, hands made of glue where everything near them was caught. If I lobbed a ball up on a fly pattern it was caught about 95% of the time. Madden is no longer a sim. There is no cpu trading. I think there is a long way for it to improve.

hehe, That's why I switched over to coach mode this year. Too much robo cpu quarterback and your right, the cpu hardly ever gives the ball to the rb, especially when they are 3 pts behind or more. Sacks in player mode were not easy to get either and pancakes, I just thought it was closer to the mark than other games, I agree, still a ways to go.

I wish you better luck than I had with the PS2. I had a vac day the day I was supposed to get it. Fed Ex delivered it a day late. Vac day wasted. Well, sorta, I just drove to the mall and picked it up that night. Long drive, but worth it. Returned the other copy.

    Roadman,

My point was, if 3DO stands still in the other departments of the game the general public will probably move to the games that do have more eye-candy and make gameplay strides.

People who just say it's the gameplay I don't think will help increase their sales if they don't make improvements in other areas.

I agree with jim. I see the whole debate from both sides pretty well...at least I think I do. Anyway, the way I see it, 3do does need to at some point say "we have the best gameplay out there, but we need to make this thing gorgeous and load it with features so we can blow everyone away." I thought that with last years product playing so well, that they would almost take a year off in the gameplay department and load the thing with features and eyecandy. Maybe they just don't have the art department or talent needed to do that? I mean it is pretty well proven that they have the baseball minds to program a thorough game of baseball that mixes arcade and sim. They should farm out to a great graphics company and get a whole lot of pretty into this game.

I like how in that review from IGN that they say that some of the bugs were squashed but they don't say which ones. I would really like to know what has been fixed and what hasn't.

I agree, I think they are referring to the 2 out bug at the very least. Roadman has already posted that they definitely found that one and killed it.

    Jim:

I know that was your point, I am just hoping it's not true that sports gaming is going more towards eye candy rather than gameplay. Each gamer out there has their specific needs.

Look at Triple Play. They went for all the eye candy in the world and sold games galore based on their name only. EA decided to kill that series and make one that soothes over the people that want the gameplay.

I think they should do the same with Live. It's has all the eyecandy in the world.

Hopefully, 3DO can build on this new engine and put tons of featues in future versions, but this gamer doesn't want to see the gameplay disrupted one ounce from adding those bells and whistles.

Well, I don't know how game play suffers (I'm not a programmer) by just adding some ambience to the game. I wasn't expecting the same, exact same announcing as last year. I'm not sure how making the interface a little brighter, a more create a player option would make the game play suffer.

Let's face it. Pretty sells (I"m a good example of that)

But seriously, if they are constrained by money and this continues it can only be bad for 3DO, me thinks. I think there are far more gamers that would sacrifice a bit of gameplay for some great eye pleasure. I'm one of those. High Heat console was just an update with graphics that aren't keeping up with the times.

I'm sure anxious to hear all the stuff about the PC version.

Yeah, I know pretty sells, looked what happened to Triple Play. I am not in the catagory of gathering up more eye candy and letting the gameplay suffer a bit. All you have to do is look at EA's attempts at baseball(not the new MVP) and basetball. The gameplay has suffered immeasurably for hoops, and I won't buy another one.

I thought that others have been reporting along with the great gameplay, they added the new graphics, the 27 different pitches,
new animations I heard are sweet, the new sliders, the new staduims look better than last year, and the new franchise mode. Wow, guess I will have to wait till tomorrow to pop in the new CD.

Maybe these new features are more of a significant upgrade on PC vs. last year on the PS2.

Let me just add that I don't want HH to stand pat either.

As a programmer, I can answer a few questions about the way the game performs. Usually the engine has a lot to do with what kind of graphics can be used in a game. The engine usually has to be able to accomodate static or rendered graphics as well as the 3dmodels used for characters. I am hoping that 3do sat down last year and evaluated where they wanted this game to go in the future and said whoa, the old engine can not handle all of this. We better scrap it, and write a new one. In doing this we can add all of the good stuff after we get it working and have time to refine it. Let's hope that this is what happened and it wasn't a case of oh well the other one had too many bugs in it or the chief programmers of the original code are gone and most others can't figure out what the heck is going on in the engine. Code is kinda like painting, everyone has thier own style and sometimes each person doesn't always understand why the other did it the way they did.....

tomorrow EB and Gamestop, this is for PC only. I heard that Xbox will be in stores Friday. I would check Best Buy, but I think they usually come out a week or 10 days later than the above stores.
