The Golden Game: Baseball in Sacramento

Rate this Entry
One of my local PBS channels aired The Golden Game: Baseball in Sacramento last night. The show covers the history of baseball in Sacramento from the early years to present day, but of particular interest to me were the parts about the Solons and the Pacific Coast League. It included a good deal of old footage and photographs as well as interviews with former players, announcers, and local historians. The show only lasts about thirty minutes, but if you have any interest in the old PCL or a unique part of baseball history, I think it's worth a look.

The show can be viewed from KVIE's website by clicking on video, or you can watch it on youtube:

That may have been less than 30 minutes, but there was a whole lot of information packed into that short amount of time.

Thanks for sharing a link to the show Mike. I really enjoyed it.

Thanks for taking a look at it, Gen. There were some interesting stories in there that I found enjoyable. I only wish that you could see Kenneth Eng's piece on high school ball in Japan because it's really well done.

It was also kind of neat when they mentioned the Nisei player (Kenso Nushida); I just finished reading a biography on Wally Yonamine and I've developed something of an interest in Nisei players.

Was that the biography from Robert Fitts? If so, how was it? If you enjoyed it, I might see if I can find it.

    Yep, that's the one.

My only complaint is the style. The book itself contained lots of great information, but I just couldn't really get into the style in which it was written. I would still recommend it, especially if you're interested in learning more about the history of Japanese baseball.
