Baseball Mogul
How do I customize stadiums in Baseball Mogul 2008?
The current patch for Baseball Mogul 2008 supports customization of background art used in the Play-By-Play Screen. The top image in the Play-By-Play Screen is called the "Stadium View". The bottom image is called the "Catcher View". Either of these images can be replaced with custom art.
Stadium Art
Whenever a game is started in Play-By-Play mode, Baseball Mogul looks for art files in the 'PBP' folder (inside the News folder in the current skin). By default, this folder is c:\Program Files\Sports Mogul\Baseball Mogul 2008\Skins\SportsMogul\News\PBP.
Baseball Mogul will first search for a file matching the home team and time-of-day (i.e. "day" or "night").
For example, when displaying the Stadium View for a day game hosted by the Los Angeles Dodgers, Baseball Mogul will first look for the following files:
PBP-Stadium-Chavez Ravine-Day.jpg
PBP-Stadium-[Stadium Photo]-Day.jpg
PBP-Stadium-Los Angeles-Day.jpg
PBP-Stadium-Dodgers-Day.jpg
PBP-Stadium-LAD-Day.jpg
That is, if there is no file named "PBP-Stadium-Chavez Ravine-Day.jpg", Baseball Mogul will try to open PBP-Stadium-[Stadium Photo]-Day.jpg, and so on.
Note that [Stadium Photo] will be replaced by the string entered in the Stadium Editor.
If Baseball Mogul can't find the above files, it will try without the day/night extension:
PBP-Stadium-Chavez Ravine.jpg
PBP-Stadium-[Stadium Photo].jpg
PBP-Stadium-Los Angeles.jpg
PBP-Stadium-Dodgers.jpg
PBP-Stadium-LAD.jpg
If that fails, Baseball Mogul will use the default Day or Night file:
PBP-Stadium-Day.jpg
If that file is missing for some reason, Baseball Mogul will default to the generic stadium background art:
PBP-Stadium.jpg
Stadium Coordinates
When loading art into the Play-By-Play screen, Baseball Mogul will look for a matching ".ini" file, containing coordinates that describe the location of bases and outfield walls. For example, if Baseball Mogul is using the art file called PBP-Stadium-Day.jpg, it will load coordinates from PBP-Stadium-Day.ini.
All coordinates in stadium "ini" files assume that the art in question is 640 (wide) x 480 (high). Although art files can be of any dimension, you should re-size the art to 640 x 480 when you record the locations of each base and foul pole.
Here is a sample "ini" file:
308,376 # HOME_PLATE_COORDINATES
464,293 # FIRST_BASE_COORDINATES
315,243 # SECOND_BASE_COORDINATES
162,291 # THIRD_BASE_COORDINATES
14,194 # LEFT_FIELD_COORDINATES [Base of foul pole]
318,151 # CENTER_FIELD_COORDINATES [Base of CF wall]
623,198 # RIGHT_FIELD_COORDINATES [Base of foul pole]
Words after the '#' are comments, and are ignored by Baseball Mogul. Coordinates are stored in the format "x,y" and must be listed in the above order. For bases, record the pixel at the 'center' of each base as it appears in the artwork. For outfield center field coordinates, choose the pixel where the field meets the base of the outfield wall. For left and right field coordinates, choose the pixel where the foul line meets the base of the outfield wall.
